The NGO „Eko-Zadar“ was founded in the eve of The Day of Earth 1999.by a group of enthusiasts who aimed to promote ecological agriculture. The chosen methodology is educating all parts of the society (the public, business and civil sector) through an ecological production of food as the only way of sustainable agriculture that is good for human health as well as the environment (soil and water).
By introducing The Green Phone a vast number of young and ecologically aware activists joined the organization who put an emphasis on protection of the environment. During 2003 we officially became „Eko-Zadar“- the association for promoting ecological production of food and protection of the environment. Today we also have graduated biologists and ecologists who went through additional education about „Natura 2000). „Eko- Zadar“ actively influences the positive changes and implementation of decision concerning a sustainable development by means of activism and promotion of ecological awareness. We work on raising ecological awareness and education of the citizens. We did, and still continue, to organize many fairs and educational programmes.
Nowadays there are about 130 activists and we are members of The Green Phone Croatian Network and The Green Forum. We are also members of working groups „Raising Ability in Applying the environmental acquis in local and regional levels“, we worked on a project „The Plan of Elaborating Interventions in Environmental Protection of the City of Zadar Area“. As we co-operate with other organizations, initiatives, public and private sectors, we support projects such as The Solar Cluster, The Association of the Disabled Persons of the Zadar County, and sustainable development of rural areas (The Local Activity Group „Laura“).
In 2010 the volunteers of The Green Phone were working 870 hours and in other activities the volunteers of the „Eko-Zadar“ did 720 hours.
